The famous get together of intellectuals and achievers is coming to India. TED (stands for Technology – Entertainment – Design) conference is a 3 day event with speeches and presentations by successful businessmen, scientists, inventors and achievers in other areas.
TED conferences are very informative and also very entertaining. Watch some of the TED videos posted in this blog to get some taste of TED speeches. There will be other events and cultural programs apart from speeches.

Questions on qualifications of Vivek Kundra and Aneesh Chopra
Well known tech journalist John C. Dvorak has opened a can of worms by raising questions on qualifications of Vivek Kundra (CIO of USA) and Aneesh Chopra (CTO of USA) in his article “Special Report: Is US Chief Information Office (CIO) Vevek Kundra a Phony?
I agree with John, there many other folks who are better qualified to be CIO or CTO of USA than Vivek Kundra and Aneesh Chopra.
Om Malik did a counter to John’s post “Dvorak raises doubts about US CIO Kundra : Whitehouse calls report “highly inaccurate: & “a lie” . Kundra speaks up.”
It is interesting to see how this story unfolds if mainstream media picks this story.
How to connect your computer / laptop to your tv?
Well, I bought a new HD tv and wanted to connect my laptop to my TV so that I can watch the pod-casts and indian TV programs and movies on big screen TV. There are different ways you can connect your computer to tv depending on availability of ports on your TV and computer.
S Video Cable : Most of the old tvs and computers also have S video port. New tvs and computers do not have this port. My samsung HD tv and Dell laptop do not have this port. You need to buy a s video cable to connect the computer to TV. You can buy this in Walmart or online for less than 10 bucks. There are two types of S video ports, 5 pin and 7 pin so make sure you are buying the right s video cable.
HDMI Cable : This is the best way to connect provided you have HDMI ports on your TV and computer. I believe all HD TVs have this port and some of the new computers have this port. I am lucky, the Dell laptop I bought an year ago has HDMI port. HDMI is the best cable to transfer HD signal. You can buy HDMI cable for around 10 bucks. I bought mine from monoprice.com for 10 bucks.

I use screen hunter free to take screen shots / screen prints. It is very easy to use and automatically saves the picture in gif formant so less size. With just one click you can select the portion of the screen you want to screen grab it automatically saves that picture as a gif file and puts it on the clip board. So you can immediately paste the picture with a ctl + v.
Mint.com – Best way to moniter and manage your financials
I use mint.com to monitor all my credit cards, checking and savings accounts. You can see trends in your spending, your monthly average expenses by category. You can also budget your expenses by category and it will send you alerts when you exceed the budget. Pie charts by category, you net worth, your total income and expenses in the last 30 days, you can see all these with mint.com.
You get reminders for your payment due dates. Isn’t it nice to be able search all of your transactions of your credit cards, checking accounts at one place? You can do that with mint.com.
It is free of service. It is very safe all of your data is encrypted. You can not do any transaction or modify any thing via mint.com. You can just read your transactions. So it is very safe and there is no problem even if some one gets access to your mint userid and password. This website is maintained by the company that writes security software for major banks.
